A Publication About the Environmental Impact of Spirits and Bars

I was sent an email with a publication made by Ecochain, a company that can "measure your entire company’s environmental impact on material, product or process level and take the most effective measures." It's a quick and good read on some of the topics impacting our industry.

Screen Shot 2020-11-10 at 9.59.10 AMThey released an online magazine Spirits of the future: How sustainable changemakers are turning the liquor industry upside down that features some examples of producers and bar/event owners in the industry. You may recognize a few of them such as Avallen Calvados, Good Vodka, EcoSpirits totes, and Barra Mexico. 

It's a fairly light but (seems to me) good overview of specific places where we can measure and hopefully reduce the environmental impact in our industry. The publication looks at

  • Raw materials for spirits production (choice of grapes over grain, for example)
  • Power used in distilling (solar power distilling)
  • Glass bottle weight, shipping, recycling, and reuse [ecoSpirits totes save 10,000 bottles annually at the Raffles Singapore alone]
  • At the bar and bartender events 


After a few brief intros to people are who doing innovative/good work in the sector, they conclude with a little summary; a few of which I've pasted below.
